July in Michigan

The haze in the air at midday, the chirps from the crickets in the high grass, the chill from a sweaty glass of freshly squeezed lemonade, mosquitos telling never ending stories too close to the ear—these are a few of the many moments in the overture of a July day.

Unless one is in the southern hemisphere, our collective experiences of July hum the same summer tune. The years continue to slide and with the same zeal, I personally anticipate the lazy pace of a July in Michigan. For our exterior teams, July can be stressful: ensuring water systems are working per spec and mobilizing in-between installations to make sure summer storm damage doesn’t impede our clients’ special environments. As one can imagine, for us the love of July has two faces. What memories or anticipations of July come to your mind?

We are anticipating July blooms and easy conversations with retail visitors as they enjoy lazy strolls through the garden shoppe. I have been able to escape the confines of the office over the last month. It has been refreshing to reconnect with so many faces in retail. Getting family updates and seeing once young children who are now graduating has made me smile and instantly feel so old. Apparently, many Julys have passed without me even realizing!

The fleurdetroit website is masterfully updated by our very own talented photographer and social media maven, Tracy. Tracy works diligently to ensure our content is fresh, new and informative. The new summer floral collection is rolling out this month and the summer annuals are on sale, just in time to refresh any containers in need of a July bump. New to the retail experience is dedicated appointment times to discuss containers and design. We have appointments available with Annette to shop for that perfect container for your garden or terrace. We also have the opportunity for personal shopping in the retail shoppes, to pull together the perfect mix of treasures for the home and garden. Call to arrange an appointment that fits into your schedule.

Wishing all a July full and filled with lazy days and freshly squeezed glasses of lemonade. Be safe friends, and be kind to yourself.
